Glazing guide
Acrylic vs. Glass for Picture Frames
Glazing is part of the frame’s everyday experience. It affects weight, handling, safety and reflections, so choose it with the room in mind rather than treating it as an invisible last detail.

01
Why many homes choose acrylic
Acrylic is lighter than glass and shatter-resistant, which makes it practical for large frames, stairways, children’s rooms and homes where a frame may be moved often. It is also easier to ship safely.
Picture To Be Framed uses shatter-resistant acrylic as the standard cover on every frame. That keeps the finished piece lighter while still giving the print a clear protective surface.
02
When glass may be worth considering
Glass can feel substantial and may be preferred for a small, permanently installed piece where weight and breakage are not concerns. The trade-off is that it is heavier and more fragile during handling and transport.
If a window or lamp reflects directly toward the artwork, reflection control matters more than the material name. Change the hanging position first, then ask about available glazing options for the frame and size you want.
03
Place the frame where it will be lived with
The best glazing choice depends on the wall. Near a busy walkway or above a child’s desk, low weight and shatter resistance are useful. In a quiet, low-light room, the decision may come down to the look and handling you prefer.
Whatever you choose, keep the frame away from sustained damp, direct heat and harsh sunlight. Room placement is part of protecting the print.

Is acrylic better than glass for a large frame?
Acrylic is usually the more practical choice for a large frame because it reduces weight and is shatter-resistant. The best choice still depends on the room and the available options for that size.
