Gallery wall guide
How Many Pictures Should You Put on One Wall?
There is no fixed number of pictures for a wall. The right count depends on the wall width, furniture below it, frame sizes and the amount of space you leave between pieces.

01
Start with the wall and furniture
A narrow wall may need one strong piece or a vertical pair. A long sofa wall can support three to seven frames when the overall arrangement stays within the furniture width.
Measure the intended area and cut paper templates to the finished outside dimensions. Move the templates until the group feels balanced from the room’s main viewing position.
02
Let spacing create order
Two to three inches between frames is a reliable starting point for a gallery wall. Use the same gap throughout unless a larger pause separates two distinct groups.
A consistent frame profile or mat color can make a varied collection feel intentional. Too many different sizes, colors and gaps compete for attention.

How many frames look good above a sofa?
Three to seven can work depending on the sofa width and frame sizes. Judge the complete arrangement, including gaps, as one piece.
Should all pictures on a wall match?
No. Repeating one or two elements—frame color, mat tone, subject or gap—can unify a varied collection.
