How Many Pixels Do I Need for a 16×20 Print?
A 16×20 print needs about 4800×6000 pixels for 300 DPI, or 3840×4800 pixels for 240 DPI. Start with the largest original file available and check the crop before enlarging.

01
Calculate the target
Multiply the finished width and height by the target DPI. 16×20 at 300 DPI is 4800×6000 pixels; at 240 DPI it is 3840×4800 pixels.
The file should also match the 4:5 print ratio or be cropped intentionally. An automatic crop can remove the edges of a portrait or group photograph.
02
Judge the image at the final size
Look for focus, motion blur, low-light noise and compression around faces and text. Pixel dimensions cannot fix an image that was soft or heavily compressed when captured.
A good frame can make a print feel finished, but it cannot hide obvious softness. Check the file before choosing the moulding and mat.

Can I print a 3000×4000 photo at 16×20?
It is below the usual 300 DPI target but may still work at a normal viewing distance if the original is sharp. Check the effective resolution and preview first.
What ratio is 16×20?
16×20 is a 4:5 ratio. Many phone and camera files need a crop to fit it.
