How Many Pixels Do I Need for an 11×14 Print?

For an 11×14 print, aim for about 3300×4200 pixels at 300 DPI. A file around 2640×3360 pixels reaches 240 DPI and can still produce a good framed print when the viewing distance is normal.

Practical framing advice for a piece that belongs on the wall.

01

Use the print size to calculate pixels

Multiply each inch by the target DPI. At 300 DPI, 11×14 needs 3300×4200 pixels. At 240 DPI, it needs 2640×3360 pixels.

The aspect ratio matters as much as the pixel count. An image with enough total pixels can still need cropping if its proportions do not match 11×14.

02

Check the original file

Use the original camera or phone file rather than a screenshot, social-media download or compressed message attachment. Those copies may have fewer pixels and more compression artifacts.

If the file is smaller, do not enlarge it blindly. Check the face, fine detail and edges at the intended print size, and use the frame-fit checker before you order.

Common questions

Is 300 DPI required for an 11×14 print?

300 DPI is a strong target, but 240 DPI can still look good for a normal wall-viewing distance. The image quality and original focus matter too.

What aspect ratio is an 11×14 print?

11×14 is a 11:14 ratio, so many camera images need a crop before printing. Check the crop before ordering.
