How to Center Art Over a Sofa
Center the complete framed piece or gallery-wall arrangement—not the individual image—over the sofa. Use the furniture as the reference and leave a small amount of air between the sofa and artwork.

01
Measure the group as one piece
Include every frame and every gap when you calculate the arrangement width. The center point is halfway between the farthest outside edges, not necessarily the center of the largest picture.
For a single frame, use the finished outside dimensions. A mat and moulding can shift the visual footprint beyond the paper size.
02
Keep the arrangement connected
Leave about 6–10 inches between the sofa back and the bottom of the lowest frame. This keeps the wall art related to the furniture and reduces the temptation to hang the piece too high.
Use painter’s tape or paper templates, then view the wall from the main seating position before drilling.
See it before you order
Put the advice into a real frame.
Upload your picture, compare frame profiles and mats, and check the finished proportions before you commit.

Should art be centered on the wall or sofa?
Center it on the sofa or the furniture it belongs to. The furniture is the visual anchor even when the wall is wider or off-center.
How wide should art be over a sofa?
About two-thirds to three-quarters of the sofa width is a useful starting point, including all frames and gaps in a group.
